Stephen Breyer officially announces his retirement, to leave the U.S Supreme Court.

The White House was notified that Justice Stephen Breyer would be retiring.

The opportunity to participate as a judge for the Constitution

and Rule of Law was a high honour for Justice Stephen Breyer in his letter to President Biden.

Earlier this year, the 83-year-old liberal announced his retirement from the bench.

Ketanji Brown Jackson, 51, will replace him.

Ketanji Brown Jackson, the 116th member of the court, will take the oath of office later this month.

On Wednesday, his last day as a justice, Breyer attended a conference session with colleagues.

Justice Breyer will maintain an office at the court, though it will be a smaller space.
